Coppell ISD INTRA (lives with in CISD) Transfer Guidelines
Students who reside in the Coppell ISD boundaries and are currently enrolled in a Coppell ISD school and would like to request a transfer to another Coppell ISD must apply within the posted window. A student transfer form will not need to be completed the following school year unless the student is moving from Elementary to Middle School. However, a transfer can be revoked for the following reasons: the student fails to attend school (excessive absences 10 or more), has a documented pattern of late arrival to class and or/late pick ups/ excessive tardies (10 or more), the student fails to abide by the rules outlined within our Student Code of Conduct (discipline referrals or conduct that interferes with the instructional environment) or withdrawal from the campus for any reason (including DAEP).
It is important to note that if your transfer has been revoked you will receive notification of the revocation.
The procedures and guidelines outlined in this document are aligned with Board Policies FDB(Local) and FDB(Legal). Where a student resides determines the school(s) he or she will attend. Approval and continued approval is contingent on space, availability, a 90% attendance average, pattern of late arrivals or early pickups. The district does not provide bus transportation for transfer students.
A new transfer request form must be completed online during the appropriate time frame. Applications are not available outside of the Board Designated Transfer Windows. Transfer requests must be approved by the Student and Staff Services Department before a student may change schools. A condition of every approved transfer is the requirement that the student maintain prompt and regular attendance (90%), maintain good behavior, and space availability at the receiving campus. Each criterion is reviewed annually. Students with multiple absences, tardies, early pick-ups, late pick-ups and behavioral concerns may have their transfer revoked or denied.
Timelines
Coppell ISD has two transfer application windows posted on the website. Decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Please be aware that transfers received outside of the above timeframe may not be reviewed until after school starts due to campuses conducting new enrollments on a daily basis.
Consideration of Transfer Request
In evaluating each transfer request, Coppell ISD will consider:
Space availability and demographic enrollment projections in the school in which the student has requested to be transferred
Individual needs of the student and reason provided for the request
Student’s behavioral and attendance history (including tardiness)
Student’s need for special instructional services not provided at the home school
Evidence of medical and physical needs of students
Extraordinary and compelling circumstances
Other factors relevant to the transfer request
*Meeting any or all of the above criteria does not guarantee approval. Coppell ISD will not increase staffing allocations to accommodate transfer requests. Consideration of the effect of the transfer may differ at elementary and secondary schools.
Pre-K and Kindergarten – No transfers are being accepted at this time for Pre-K or Kindergarten students.
Elementary – To ensure space is available at a campus for students who reside in the attendance area, Coppell ISD will deny requests that affect grade level enrollment where projections are at 80% or greater of class size expectations.
Secondary- A variety of factors will be considered to determine whether the transfer would negatively affect the particular campus’ ability to maintain reasonable class sizes.
Feeder Pattern Progression – The approval of a transfer does not guarantee continued progression through the feeder pattern campuses.
Bus Transportation
Coppell ISD does not provide bus transportation for transfer students unless otherwise required by law. Parents whose transfer requests are approved will be responsible for providing transportation to and from the campus.
Change of Residence
Transfer forms must be completed when a student moves into a new Coppell ISD school attendance zone but wants to remain at the school he or she has been attending. A student is considered a transfer student subject to the transfer rules beginning at the time a request is approved. A new transfer is required when a student would like to make a request to change schools.
If you move once the school year has begun you will need to contact Student & Staff Services about the residence change. You can also email your inquiry to student-transfers@coppellisd.com.
