Passed during the 87th (2nd) Legislative Session, Senate Bill 9, requires schools beginning in the 2022-2023 school year to educate students on the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, human trafficking. House Bill 1525 does the same for sexual health.
With guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), Coppell ISD has approved the curriculum that will be used to teach each of these topics and have determined the grade level(s) that will receive instruction on each of the topics.
Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence and human trafficking, Senate Bill 9 requires that Coppell ISD obtain written consent from the student's parent/guardian. House Bill 1525 requires the same concerning sexual health.
Without written consent from a parent/guardian, students will not receive instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and human sexuality.
